Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly

Welcome to Hoxa Harrier Books

It is aptly named after the place where I was born on the Orkney Islands and in recognition of the diving and swooping antics of the Hen Harriers that are seen regularly on the islands. I now live in Dorset – a place not unlike the Orkney Islands, and I consider the county as my home.

I have had a lifetime of writing from essays at school, college, uni, preparing lectures, submissions to latterly reports and appeals. Now I’m glad to say I am back to the early days of letting my imagination flow and enabling it to evolve into short stories and novels. I write articles for local magazines; run writing courses and help others to start writing. I can help YOU catch that dream and make it real.

There's a book in everyone.

I believe that everyone has book to write. It could be a memoir of your life; or about your technical expertise; your travels; a children’s book perhaps; or fiction for adults: there are many genres. The recent Covid crisis gave many people time to realise a dream and start to write.
